A Guideline For Making Pancakes From Scratch

Pancakes are arguably the most popular food in most households. They make the perfect breakfast meal and a lot of people love them. Nowadays, everyone can make a pancake easily by following the recipe in the pancake mix boxes. However, many people may argue that the best pancakes are ones you make from scratch. Here are guidelines for making pancakes from scratch:

Step 1: Gather the ingredients and equipment

The first step for preparing any recipe is gathering the right ingredients. You will need a cup and a quarter of milk, a couple of eggs, two tablespoons of vegetable oil or butter, two tablespoons of sugar, and a pinch of salt. Do not forget about the all-purpose flour and baking powder if you want to make fluffy pancakes. Besides the ingredients, you will need a mixing bow, whisk, spatula, and a girdle or skillet (preferably non-stick).

Step 2: Prepare the batter

Once you have all the tools and ingredients you need for the process, you can start by preparing the batter. The batter is the most important part of making pancakes. Therefore, you should take this step seriously. You will need a mixing bowl and a whisk for this step. Firstly, prepare the wet ingredients by following the procedure below:

• Beat the eggs in the bowl
• Add the milk and vegetable oil
• Use the whisk to beat the wet ingredients

Next, prepare the dry ingredients in a separate bowl following the procedure below:

• Pour the measured flour into the mixing bowl
• Add the baking powder
• Mix in the sugar and salt

Next, combine the wet and dry ingredients. Mix them using a whisk until it is smooth but slightly lumpy. Ensure not to overmix the batter so you do not get tough and rubbery pancakes. Also, do not undermix it so you do not end up with flour lumps in your pancakes.

Step 3: Cooking

Once your batter is ready, you can move on to the cooking stage. Place your girdle or skillet over medium-high heat. Next, spray cooking oil or batter on the pan and allow it to heat lightly. Pour a quarter cup of the batter on the hot skillet or girdle and allow it to cook for a minute or two until it starts to bubble on the surface. Once the batter is dry around the edges, you can turn it over to the other side and cook it for a couple of minutes. Allow it to cook until both sides are golden brown. Do the same for the rest of the batter.

Conclusion

Preparing pancakes is quite easy if you have the right ingredients and follow the right procedure. It is worth noting that you can play around with the ingredients to alter the flavor to your preference. However, you should not tamper with the key ingredients mentioned on this post. You can serve the pancakes with syrup or whipped cream, depending on your preference. You can store leftover pancakes in the freezer between waxed paper or in foil.
